2016/17 Manning Point Regatta
12th & 13th November 2016
7 MG's from Taree, Gosford and St George competed in the annual Manning Point Regatta (near the mouth of the Manning River) on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 November.
On a hot day 1 with a weak NE sea breeze fighting a weak NW land breeze, conditions were light and variable, and the strong river current made mark roundings extremely tricky and frustrating. PHOENIX had the gun start, however XANADU picked enough of the shifts and small puffs and avoided some of the dead patches and led at the first mark, followed by CHILL'N. XANADU stayed in front to take the gun, while THAT'S GOLD took over second, followed by CHILL'N and PHOENIX. With the temperature rising and the wind showing no signs of improvement, planned further races were abandoned.
Day 2 was even hotter and the wind was again variable from the W-NW, although generally a bit more of it than on day 1 and fresh and gusty at times. 3 races were sailed, with the wind suddenly gusting to 25-30 knots near the end of the final race and flattening at least 1 boat (XANADU), and making it tricky getting back onto the beach, however no damage was done. CHILL'N took the gun in 2 races, and with a 4th in the other race of the day, won the overall regatta from XANADU (2 x 2nds and a 5th on day 2), EVEN FLOW (who won the other race) and THAT'S GOLD (who won on Handicap).
Thanks to Taree Aquatic Club for organising the regatta and to the Manning Point Bowling Club for sponsoring the event, and providing cash and other prizes.

2015/2016 Touring Trophy
A beautiful 15-18kt Nor'easter greeted the fleet for the first heat of the MG14 Association Touring Trophy held at Balmoral Sailing Club yesterday. The run out tide together with some standard Sydney Harbour congestion resulted in some interesting moments however it was a day enjoyed by all.
After the race all crews gathered in the clubhouse for the some refreshments and the obligatory BBQ whilst the major prizes were awarded.
First on Handicap went to Tardis sailed by Romana and Damian Ryan whilst fastest time was taken out by Blues Brothers sailed by Jack Andrew & Lucas Hassett. Both boats received a gift voucher from the Yacht Shop at Illawarra Yacht Club which will not doubt come in handy at either the Kembla Klassic or the Australian Championships both to be held on Lake Illawarra.
The next round of the Touring Trophy will be held in conjunction with the Kembla Klassic on Sunday 29th November 2015.
