The pictures make me very envious, looks fantastic.

Would the MGB sails just go straight on an MG without modifying the self tacking jib track or anything else?

The MGB Specs differ from the MG14 as follows;

* 10.5 s/m working sail area. (Increased from 9.3 s/m)
* 15.4 l/m perimeter asymmetric spinnaker. (Increased from 14 l/m)
* Maximum spinnaker hoist height 5100 mm above the deck or 5760 mm above the keel for those boats without a foredeck. (400mm Higher than existing MG14)
* Fixed or rotating mast with maximum height of 5650mm above deck or 6310mm above keel & remove the black band requirement to allow the main to be hoisted to the top of mast.

The MGB now takes the class into a new era of performance skiff racing. We now have an overpowered boat with a crew weight of 120 kgs or a more comfortable boat for 140 to 160 kgs. A boat that may now be more suited to fixed rig set-up although some may persist with current alloy mast, some may try a stronger carbon wing mast. Phil M

So if our boat is set up an MG14 are most people increasing the jib size or just adding a bigger main? See I was thinking of getting a new mainsail and thought if the class is going to increased size it might be wise to get an MGB main, but if I need a new longer mast then its a bit much at the moment.

Hi David
First you must decide if you want to sail as an MG14 or MG14B (MGB). This decision should be based on combined crew weight. MGB is min weight combined of =>150kg. MG14 is unrestricted however best at around 125kg combined. It is possible to run an MG14 & MGB rig on the same mast as Gary Reeves of ST George SC does & is quick and easy to switch between rigs. The bigger main would only allow you to have a very small jib if you were to use it as MG14. The difference between Garys boat & mine is we run a round mast 7.5sqm Main & 3sqm Jib but Gary retained his wing mast and has a smaller Jib around 2.5sqm I think but a bigger Main 8SQM I think (gary can confirm correct sizes) Both boats perform well.

We will stick as the mg14. Just that as there is no wind here (we are inland NSW) any stitch of cloth makes for more fun. We are still light (120kg) me 95kg, 7 years old 25kg. So by the time we are ready for MGB the main will be spent.

Unless anyone had an old MGB main they wanted to sell?
